We've officially been in Belize for a week now, and it's been quite an adventure! As soon as we arrived, we were advised right away to avoid going out at night, particularly after 10 PM. While it's good to stay cautious, the vibrant culture during the evening is more than enough to keep us engaged and excited.

One of the highlights of our experience so far has been the lively atmosphere at Belize City's park, especially on weekends. Every Saturday and Sunday, the park transforms into a massive birthday party hub. It’s filled with excitement and joy—families gather to celebrate with giant bouncy castles, trampolines, plus scooters and little rideable cars and trucks for kids. These are all available at a small cost. The area is surrounded by stands offering delicious food and refreshing juices, creating a perfect outing for families.

In the park the vendors are starting to know us and they always lookout for my kids. The guy running the bounce castle even held the baby for me while I was busy with the toddlers. The other kids are all from big families and they love babies. Teenagers play ball or tag with the kids, and it really feels like a big family.

Our presence has not gone unnoticed, especially at the park! The kids are always eager to approach us, fascinated by my blonde babies. I must say, everyone we’ve met has been incredibly welcoming and kind. Belizean women, most of whom are mothers themselves, are particularly friendly and helpful.

I love the community spirit here. In the park, people genuinely look out for one another. They lend a hand, especially when it comes to keeping an eye on Alexander, who has been dashing around swiftly among the other children. It's heartwarming how everyone bands together; it almost feels like we’ve become part of a big, protective family in this short time.

Exploring Belize is teaching us more each day. From cultural adjustments to forming new friendships, it's just the beginning of our journey in this beautiful country. Stay tuned for more stories about our Belizean adventure!

Park Foods to Try in Belize

When exploring the vibrant parks in Belize, don't miss out on the culinary delights that bring local flavors to life.

Stewed Chicken with Beans and Rice

This dish is a beloved staple in Belizean cuisine and a must-try when visiting local parks. The chicken is marinated in rich, bold spices, then slowly simmered until tender and juicy. Paired with savory beans and rice, it creates a hearty meal that both locals and visitors rave about. The combination is not only delicious but also reflects the heart of Belizean home cooking.

Fry Jack

A popular Belizean breakfast item, fry jacks are delightful, fluffy pieces of deep-fried dough. Often enjoyed in the morning, they can be filled with beans, cheese, or enjoyed plain with a drizzle of honey. This doughy treat offers a perfect breakfast or snack option while strolling through the park.

When it comes to beverages, while fresh fruit smoothies are a treat, be mindful of the amount of grenadine; it can sometimes be too sweet. Opt for a lighter version to savor the natural fruit flavors better.

Enjoy these traditional foods as you take in the natural beauty and vibrant culture of Belize’s parks!
